Vance D. Coffman was the chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Lockheed Martin Corporation. He was elected to the board of directors of 3M on 12 May 2009.

What is ‘Vance D. Coffman’
A former president, CEO and chairman of Lockheed Martin, and an astronautical engineer. Coffman joined the company in 1967 and developed a satellite-positioning system, the Hubble telescope and the MILSTAR communications satellite. He became president and COO in 1996, CEO in 1997, and chairman in 1998.
Explaining ‘Vance D. Coffman’
Born in 1944 in Kansas, Coffman earned his bachelor of science in aerospace engineering and his Ph.D. from Stanford University in aeronautics and astronautics. He retired from Lockheed in 2005 after working with the company for 38 years.
